King Master Cornet Serial Numbers
Sep 17, 2012 Go to the King/ H.N. White website to check the date of manufacture via the serial number list. Also check to see if it takes a 'modern' cornet shank, or needs something with a different taper. Mine's from 1956 and really works better with the old Conn short shank mouthpiece. This King Master Model Cornet has been beautifully redone by a professional company. This includes a new lead pipe along with gold lacquer and a Bach 7A mouthpiece. The horn is tight and spotless. The horn comes from the era before the company was sold. The craft man ship is superb. The horn, slides, and valves are stamped with the same serial.

The King Master is more refined in tone, usually medium bore, not given to the same kind of field marching sound, but a truly sweet cornet, IMO. It's really a matter of context and preference, but the King will probably be easier above G, and will play easier because it is a professional model. At least this is my experience.
